A gorgeous evening in London

Upon moving to London this semester, I had a lot of expectations. I was excited to get out of my comfort zone, meet new people, see new sights, try new food, and most of all, experience a new culture in one of the best cities in the world. However, culture shock has hit me since starting the semester, here are some cultural differences that tripped me up: Saying “toilet” instead of “restroom.”  I know this is an odd one to start with, but nobody says “restroom” here.  In…

A little bit of what you’ll see in this video is the CEA London program’s flat. It comes with linens and all the kitchenware a student could need. There is a family room that is conjoined to the kitchen, two bathrooms, and two bedrooms. The staff is very helpful, and the flat is cleaned on a weekly basis, which is a nice plus. Watch the video for some more information and to see the flat itself. Lauren G. is the Fall 2017 MOJO in London, England. She is currently…

A normal day in London consists of waking up and brewing some tea to drink on the way to school.  I take a short walk to the underground station and then pop onto the Northern line towards London South Bank University. Classes can be long, but the teachers are amazing. After getting released from class, I swing over to my favorite spot, Borough Market, to grab a bite to eat. Then, I wind down the day with some homework and eventually a homemade meal. Each night ends up being different: sometimes we have…

I wish that someone would have told me before I went abroad that taking solo trips is one of the most important things you can do. Although I love traveling with friends, I never felt more blissful than I did traveling alone. The opportunity really gives you time to reflect and is the perfect way to hit the reset button. Especially when you are abroad it seems that I was always busy doing something or with friends. It is nice to be on your own time and getting…

For CEA London students every year, the Wales trip is one of the most anticipated trips planned for our program. Travel can induce a lot of stress when getting to and from a place and also seeing everything that you want to in such a short weekend trip which is what usually ends up happening when studying abroad. Instead when I went on a trip with CEA the itinerary was completely planned out and in the hands of someone else. All I had to do was sit back…

After a slightly stressful week of midterms, we were gifted with a week off of school for fall break. My roommate and I decided to take full advantage of our time off and traveled to Ireland, London, and Portugal. We had such an amazing time. We got to meet up with lots of friends on our different stops and experienced so many new cultures. Additionally, we may or may not have eaten our way through the trip. This video gives a little bit of a peek into our…

Study abroad, studying abroad, study abroad in London

As part of our 20th anniversary celebration, CEA is gathering two decades worth of interviews and insights from alumni. We talked with former CEA students to learn how studying abroad with CEA has affected their current careers. Ivan Hendrawan studied abroad in July 2007 in Gudalajara, Mexico.  While his major was in Spanish, Ivan now works abroad as the Vice Director at Raya Karya Transport Indonesia and discusses how CEA’s program prepared him. Ivan: I am currently residing in Indonesia where I work in a trucking company. My…

Just like CEA claims, Airport pickup from London’s largest airport was a breeze. Everyone easily found the CEA meeting point and the ride to central London was smooth. If you have any doubts about navigating your way through the nation’s largest city at first, have no fear. CEA is there to pick you up and take you right where you need to go. The trip to York, England was a highlight of all the CEA trips. The magical, medieval city has a such a rich history, I felt I was living my 6th grade Medieval Times dreams. The CEA crew boarded a bus and journeyed  four hours north of London to the charming town. The first stop of the day was York Minster Cathedral. This breathtaking church is the site of over 2,000 years of history. We spent a good amount of time in here guided by the informative audio tour….

While no two days are alike, this video gives you an insight into just how jam packed and adventurous your life can be. London is a diverse city with endless sights to see, foods to eat, and adventurous to have. Although I was taking three classes and had an internship, I never felt like I was too busy to explore.
