Exploring Prague will forever be my favorite passtime. Petřín Hill It’s hard to miss the large green hill that towers over the red roofs of Prague, right across from Prague Castle. The hike to the top of Petřín Hill is both incredibly scenic and peaceful, since it’s one of the only places in Prague where you can be completely surrounded by nature. This is the perfect place for an outdoor study session, a picnic with friends, or even a run if you’re into that. At the summit, there’s…

Walking 5 minutes in any direction in Prague (or hopping on the super efficient public transportation trams or metro) means finding a new café, art installation or historical site to check out. Prague has the feel of a big city, but almost everything is within walking distance. In one day, you can hit highlights like Old Town Square, Prague Castle, Charles Bridge, one of the many markets, the NaFilm museum, one of the many amazing Trdelnik stands, and much more. Being a writer of any kind in Prague is an amazing experience, because inspiration really does lie around every corner. This was a stereotype of Europe that I expected to be an exaggeration. However, I quickly learned by accidentally getting lost in my first few days here that it’s impossible not to turn a corner and see art, architecture, a view, or even people that immediately had me pulling up my ideas Google doc. Old statues, lock-covered bridges, even things I’d never expect to stir ideas, like the…

One day in middle school math class, my friend walked in wearing a shirt that said Prague on it. I asked her what was “Prag-uey.” After fixing my pronunciation, she told me about the coolest city she’d ever been to. Six years later, on the first day of my Freshman year at Chapman University, my orientation leader told us about the amazing experience he had studying abroad in Prague. I spent the next two and a half years planning my own semester abroad in Prague, equal parts excited…

Studying abroad was an adventure I knew I wanted to experience before I applied to colleges. I applied to schools with study abroad programs that interested me from the beginning, with the mindset that, my junior year, I’d study internationally. Choosing Prague was not a difficult decision for me; it’s beautiful, fairly inexpensive, and central in Europe. I hadn’t heard much about the Czech Republic, or their language, so I knew immersing myself in their culture would take time and patience. Now that my 3 month stay in Prague…

Learning my way around Prague has been a lot easier than I expected. I like to think of myself as directionally privileged, but the initial thought of taking on a foreign city was scary. After taking a few weeks to figure out the city, I can confidently say I know my way around Prague. Here are my most used modes of transportation: Walking Prague is one of the most walkable cities. Even though the uneven cobblestone streets can get to your calves and feet, everything is relatively close….

In a couple weeks I leave Prague and head back home to California. It is crazy to think I have been here for four months. The time flew by, as I was told it would. It is hard to put in words what this experience has meant to me. I’ve tried to find the right adjective to place before the word, ‘experience,’ but each time I write one down, it doesn’t fully encompass my feelings. Perhaps this is because there is no single adjective to describe what studying…

study abroad, study abroad in Spain, Spain, study abroad in Barcelona, Barcelona

One of the best parts of studying abroad in Europe was being able to travel to a different country every weekend because they are all only a few hour plane ride away! Plus being in such a central location with an amazing international airport like Barcelona, you are given unprecedented access to almost anywhere you could want to go. What I didn’t realize was how hard it was going to be to narrow down where to go each weekend! So I decided to make future study abroad students…

After a slightly stressful week of midterms, we were gifted with a week off of school for fall break. My roommate and I decided to take full advantage of our time off and traveled to Ireland, London, and Portugal. We had such an amazing time. We got to meet up with lots of friends on our different stops and experienced so many new cultures. Additionally, we may or may not have eaten our way through the trip. This video gives a little bit of a peek into our…

In Prague, I attend the Anglo American University, located about a 15 minute tram ride or 30 minute walk away from my apartment. The school itself is incredibly beautiful, and I tried to capture that in this video! The school itself is an old palace, and the Cafe Des Taxis, I’ve heard, is an old horse stable. The classrooms have beautiful ornate wall designs, chandeliers, and windows. I wish I could have shown y’all one, but the classrooms are often locked. I’m often in awe of the school,…
