After the first full week of school, CEA took us on a little day trip to Cinque Terre. The students who signed up to go met the CEA Florence staff at the Santa Maria Novella around 8 am.   From there, we hopped on the busses and drove to the first of the five cities that make up Cinque Terre. Once we got to Riomaggiore, we got on the local train that takes you back and forth to the 5 cities.   My friends and I took advantage…

This week I went on the CEA excursion to the brewery tour. What I thought was going to be a quick afternoon walk around a brewery, ended up being so much more. We had a bit of a hike up to the Strahov Brewery, but our guide kept us entertained the entire way up. She took us by the American Embassy and the German Embassy to give us a short history lesson about the beautiful buildings. The German Embassy even has a garden in the back with some interesting modern…

Take a tour of the Viña del Mar Spanish Center where I take three of my classes and meet up with other international students for excursions and cultural learning activities.  Then we will head over to one of the main Universidad de Viña del Mar campuses, Rodelillo, where I am taking one class with Chilean UVM students and playing on the UVM soccer team.  Watch this video on CEA’s YouTube channel: http://youtu.be/1Px9RREvIvw Emily Shaw is the Spring 2013 CEA MOJO in Viña del Mar, Chile

I was asked to create a video tour of San José, Costa Rica so you could experience a piece of my time here. As I set out on this task I realized that Costa Rica is so much more beyond San José and my time here has been spent primarily outside of the city. So here is a little tour of Costa Rica, I hope you enjoy! Watch this video on CEA’s YouTube Channel: http://youtu.be/h6rqbNoW9Uk Lindsey Jolliffe the Spring 2013 CEA MOJO in San José, Costa Rica

I traveled to Patagonia in the far southern part of Chile with two friends. We spent three days hiking in Parque Nacional Torres del Paine. We took a bus from Viña del Mar to Santiago, a flight from Santiago to Punta Arenas, a bus from Punta Arenas to Puerto Natales, a bus from there to the national park, and a catamaran Refugio Grey, the camp ground where we spent our first night before beginning the hike. This picture is taken while on the boat across the incredibly clear…

Human beings have a tendency to seek out new information. When someone ceases the quest for new information they can no longer grow. We have facilitated this learning process by compiling information into easily accessible areas such as libraries, universities, schools and the Internet. While this is a wonderful thing it is not the most powerful way to learn. Here in Costa Rica I have fully immersed myself in the process of active learning. There is no other type of learning that involves all senses and truly engages…
