My typical day might be very different from other people’s you follow on social media. I put together pictures and short clips of how I start my morning to how I typically end my night. I included my favorite places where I normally grab food two or three times a week and of course a ton of gelato. I hope this gives you insight into how I live my daily life in this beautiful city called Firenze. Haley H. is the Fall 2017 MOJO Photographer and international intern in…

Here at CEA Florence, I am taking a class about the Food and Wine Culture in Italy. Our class had a field trip to Modena which is in the Amelia Region. This is where you can ONLY find Parmigiano Reggiano because it is only allowed to be made Modena. We got to learn about the whole process and how tedious it is to create Parmigiano Reggiano. The cheese must age for one year before it can be inspected to be passed as Parmigiano Reggiano. After that, it must age…

CEA offers a variety of fun and cultural academic activities. I decided to take part in the cooking class offered to us. It was a three hour class, but defiantly worth it. We started out by creating the ‘dough’ for our fresh pasta. All you need to make fresh pasta is eggs, flour and a little bit of salt. While the ‘dough’ was resting, we started to work on our appetizer which was an eggplant souffle.   While the eggplant souffle baked in the oven, we started to work…

We asked our CEA Alumni Ambassadors what they would say if they has 60 seconds to convince a friend to study or intern abroad. In celebration of International Education Week, here are the top 3 reasons you should go abroad. The Friendships “Studying abroad was the best decision I have ever made. I am interning at Tethy’s Gallery in Florence, Italy. It is a Fine-Art Gallery. I am interning under Guido and Massimo. They also own a photo-travel company called Atlantide Phototravel. We have a washer and dish washer stored underneath the kitchen top. Then to the right is our refrigerator. Here is our loft which has two chairs a table stand and then not pictured is the TV. Here you can get a glimpse of how I decorated my room to make it…

I have been swimming for nine years now and I am about to start my final season with the University of Utah, but I didn’t want to take a hiatus while I was abroad. Along with my three-month stay as an on-site ambassador in Florence, I decided to continue my competitive swimming journey by training with a team in Italy. I also thought training with a team would be a great way to immerse myself in the local culture and meet Florentines. The actual process to join a competitive…

study abroad, studying abroad, study abroad in Florence

It has now been over a year since my first journey abroad ended. When I left for that trip, I was just a kid from the suburbs of Utah who wanted to see the world. This year, I have returned to my former home in Italy with a few more miles on my soul and one of the most useful tools of all: language proficiency. Last summer, I never took the time to study Italian before I arrived in Florence. I had been told that I could get…

As part of our 20th anniversary celebration, CEA is gathering two decades worth of interviews and insights from alumni. CEA alumni Adam Ellis tells the story of how he found his soulmate while studying abroad in Florence, Italy. I spent a semester at the CEA Florence Center on a whim. I was just as likely to sign up as I was to throw away the brochure that an eager alumni handed out to our class. Looking back, I can confidently say that studying abroad my junior year was the…
